Is it possible to be a dedicated homeschooling mom while still making time for myself as an individual (a girlie girl who likes cute shoes)? I like to think so. Follow along, and I'll let you know for sure.

Trust me . . . it's not ALL about the shoes.

Dr. Jane Goodall in Orlando

World-renowned conservationist, Dr. Jane Goodall, will be speaking at Rollins College next Thursday, April 19th from 7:30PM to 9:00PM at the Alfond Sports Center.

From the event website:

"In her speech, Making a Difference, Dr. Jane Goodall, will bring her audience into the world of the Gombe chimpanzees, from her early observations and experiences to the latest news and stories from the field. She will also discuss the current threats facing the planet and her reasons for hope in these complex times, encouraging everyone to do their part to make a positive difference each and every day."

Dr. Goodall's visit coincides with the release of Disney's new nature film, CHIMPANZEE. Visit her website to view the movie trailer and download the CHIMPANZEE Educator's Guide, which includes over 100 pages of lessons and activities targeted to grades 2 through 6. These lessons explore the topics of biodiversity, living things, ecosystems and the environment with interactive  audio and video clips from the film.

Great Dollar Deals at Target

We were at Target earlier this week and - as always - couldn't resist checking out the dollar section. I've found some great tools for school here in the past and got just as lucky this week!

For $6, I bought six fun additions to our Animals Around the World unit:

- Fun All Around world countries activity book
- The Animal Kingdom activity book
- Apes and Monkeys early reader
- Discover Animals flashcards
- US Animals flashcards
- Where in the World puzzle

Other great deals included a set of three mini dry-erase markers and a pack of two small dry-erase erasers for only $1 each. Be sure to check out Target if you need school supplies - you never know what you will find!

Save 40% on Digital Frog Natural Science Curriculum at HSBC

The Homeschool Buyer's Co-op has just announced another great group buy - this time for a really cool-looking natural science curriculum called Digital Frog. Choose from any of their offerings, or a value-priced bundle of them all:

Digital Frog - The three modules on this CD-Rom are a digital frog dissection, anatomy and ecology.

Field Trips - Learn about different ecosystems and wildlife on three digital field trips - desert, rain forest and wetlands.

Cell Structure & Function - Build 3D models of cells and learn about their function and specialization.

The pricing seems really good on this software, and I'm considering purchasing the field trip bundle to complement our Animals Around the World unit this upcoming year.

If you're not yet a member of the Homeschool Buyer's Co-op, it is free to join and they will keep you in the loop about all the great group buys they do. If you decide to join, please considering doing so using my referral code (65626).
