On our first outing to Asheville, we were excited to check out all the vegan an vegetarian options we'd been reading about online. It was hard to choose one, but the "comfort food" menu at Rosetta's Kitchen won out. Our lunch was okay but didn't compare to our hometown favorite, Ethos.
After lunch, we drove up to Grove Park Inn and spent some time exploring the resort. I remember coming here as a kid during the two weeks we spent in Asheville each summer for horse shows. Though the facility was undergoing extensive remodeling, the views were as stunning as ever! We snuck a peek off the Sunset Terrace, checked out the shops, toured the amazing spa and sat outside to enjoy the mountain view.
We spent our last hour in town exploring Biltmore Village, then got back in the car and headed to Whisper Mountain, a green home community nestled in the mountains just West of Asheville. The kids had fun hiking the trails, climbing on the rocks and picking apples while we checked out the amazing community lodge, 2008 Southern Living Green Home and one other model home. The community is designed to have minimal impact with the homes being built to LEED standards and incorporating solar power and rainwater collection. It was fun to see such a different - and appealing - way of life!
